Rodgers Park Grilling Garden Instructions
● Reservation of the grilling garden needs to take place at least 7 days prior to the desired reservation date
● Not following the written instructions correctly could result in damage to the oven or grill. You will be held accountable for fixing or replacing any and all damages that occur during your reservation.
● You will need to set a date and time to meet with a park employee to go over how to operate all grilling garden units correctly prior to your reservation.
● Grilling garden users are responsible for clean-up of cooking and eating surfaces, along with collection of any trash or recycling items that may have accumulated during your visit. A recycling dumpster is located next to the maintenance shop and a trash dumpster is near the park entrance.
Wood-Fire Brick Oven Instructions:
● Prior to Arrival:-If you will be using the brick oven, a park employee will start a small fire for preparation.
If you will be cooking items that will have liquid/oil drippings, you must bring some type of drip-catching pan. Liquids MUST be kept off the surfaces as they can damage the material or be very difficult to clean.
● Before cooking: Only use fire wood provided by Benton County Conservation Staff -NO trash, scrap lumber, self-gathered wood, wood from the campground, charcoal, or lighter fluid is to be used in the brick oven. The wrong type of wood or material may emit substances unsafe for cooking or damaging to the oven itself. If the fire goes out, clean, non-coated paper or clean, non-coated cardboard may be used as kindling, along with the bark and wood provided.
-To keep the fire going, slowly and consistently place more wood in the back of the oven.
▪ DO NOT OVER BUILD THE FIRE. YOU WANT TO RAISE THE TEMPERATURE SLOWLY TO AVOID DAMAGING THE OVEN.
-You’ll notice the oven dome turning black. As the temperature rises and more heat is stored in the dome, it will turn a whitish grey. Your goal is to heat the oven in a way that the entire dome turns whitish grey.
Cooking Instructions:
Open-Door Cooking: Open-door cooking is used to cook pizzas and other foods that require medium to high temperatures and short cooking times. You may use the provided thermometer to monitor oven temperature for more consistent cooking.
Keep the fire going in the back of the oven. Ensure a clear cooking surface by sweeping aside ashes from the front of the hearth with a wire brush and you’re ready to cook. The oven will be hot enough and fire small enough to cook safely.
Directional signs and decorations:
Temporary, freestanding directional signs are not allowed to be attached to
park furniture, signs posts, or other facilities. Decorations are allowed as
long as they are free standing or not affixed in a manner that would damage a
facility or any painted walls. All temporary
signs and decorations must be removed upon departure. Existing facility decorations cannot be
removed.
