Welcome to Pottawattamie County!

Explore the Great Outdoors with Pottawattamie County Conservation!

Since 1955, the Pottawattamie County Conservation Board has acquired 12 parks and natural areas encompassing some 2,300 acres across the county, including the award-winning Hitchcock Nature Center.  Visited by more than 300,000 people a year, the Pottawattamie County Conservation parks and natural areas showcase the county's diverse landform and variety of outdoor activities. From hiking through the rugged Loess Hills to boating along the mighty Missouri River, there is something for everyone who enjoys the outdoors.

Major recreation areas within the Pottawattamie County system include Arrowhead Park, Botna Bend Park, Hitchcock Nature Center, Mt. Crescent Ski Area, Narrows River Park and Olde Town Park.  More than 100 campsites await visitors in four different parks; five camping cabins including basic amenities; four modern cabins offer a true "glamping" experience, three enclosed lodges provide year round settings for corporate outings, family reunions and small weddings; open and enclosed shelters yield spacious and special settings for warm season gatherings; and miles of trails provide opportunities for hiking, biking and walking.  The parks of Pottawattamie County also offer visitors the opportunity to camp, fish, hike, boat and interact with wildlife.
