    Rental Contract Agreement

     We (I) agree to follow all Louisa County Conservation Board rules; leave the facilities clean and free from damage and to respect the neighbors and their property.  We (I) further understand failure to do so may result in any or all of the following: cleaning fee being assessed; eviction from Langwood Education Center and future restrictions.     

    Special Use Permit - Beer or Wine - $50 permit fee:  Special use permits are required for groups wishing to have beer or wine at their event. 

    I, the undersigned, being 21 years of age or older, agree to leave the site used in the same condition as found, agree to clean up any debris and litter which may be deposited during my stay, agree to be responsible for any damages done to property by myself or my guests and agree to abide by all rules and regulations of the Board and all laws of this State. I agree the Board may apply charges to satisfy any damage to its property caused by myself or my guests while using the facilities.  I further agree to assume full responsibility for the acts, negligence or omissions of members of myself and my guests while using said area.

    Canoe Use Agreement: Peak season Langwood rental (4/15-10/15) includes optional use of the canoes/lifejackets/paddles. By choosing this option, you agree to the following:

    I, as contact person for a group using canoes at Langwood Education Center,  realize canoeing is a water sport which involves risk and danger and agree to abide by all the state laws and regulations governing the use of the canoes.  I assume all responsibility, not only for myself, but for the safety of all participants in my group.  I take full responsibility for loss or damage to any equipment and will replace it at retail value. I further agree specifically to 1. Not allow more than three (3) persons in a canoe at one time.  (A child of any age is considered a person.) 2. Not allow persons to operate or ride in a canoe without wearing a properly fitting lifejacket. 3. Not dive, enter the water or swim from the canoe. 4. Not allow anyone to operate a canoe in a reckless manner. 5. Not leave children under the age of 16 unattended in canoes. 6. Indemnify, save and hold harmless Louisa County, its Directors, officers and employees, from and against any and all claims and demands for, or in connection with, any accident, injury, death, or damage whatsoever caused to any person or property arising, directly or indirectly, out of the use of personal property pursuant to the Canoe Use Agreement and from and against any and all costs, expenses, and liabilities incurred in connection with any such claim or proceeding brought thereon.    

    Proof of Insurance: Renters must provide proof of insurance with a minimum of $100,000 liability coverage.  These can be obtained from your homeowner or rental insurance by contacting the company.

    Cancellation Policy

    Refunds will not be given for cancellations. If a cancellation must be made, a “rain check"  will be issued. The rain check must be used within twelve months of the issue date.

    Refund Policy

    Refunds will not be given for cancellations. If a cancellation must be made, a “rain check"  will be issued. The rain check must be used within twelve months of the issue date.

    Youth Groups (Scouts, 4H, Church, etc.) should call the Conservation Office 319-523-8381 or email conservation@louisacountyia.gov prior to making a reservation to get the Youth Rate discount code. 

    Check-in is at 3 pm. Check-out is at Noon.     Groups interested in early check-in or late check-out should call the Conservation Office at 319-523-8381 to check availability. Early check-in or late check-out may be available for an additional $50. 

    This beautiful 92-acre area is used for school field trips, public programs, and private rentals. When renting Langwood, groups have access to:

    • Lodge - a 20 x 60-foot building with heat and air. The lodge has a small kitchenette with a fridge, stove, microwave, sink and is fairly well stocked with table service, pots and pans.
    • A-frame Dormitory - groups may choose to spend the night in the a-frame.  There are 21 cots between the downstairs and upstairs.  Groups must bring all of their own bedding. There is not any heat or air conditioning in the a-frame but it stays relatively cool in the summer due to its shape and shaded location.
    • Restroom - There is a restroom (not attached to either building) with four shower stalls and four toilets.
    • Fire rings and Grill - There are several fire rings spread around Langwood for groups to have campfires or cook over.  There is also a large grill for charcoal cooking. Groups must bring their own charcoal if planning to use the grills.
    • Pond - Groups are welcome to utilize the pond for fishing.  Anglers are required to have valid Iowa fishing licenses and bring their own poles, bait and tackle. We have a 15" limit on bass. Swimming is prohibited.
    • Canoeing - groups are also allowed to use the canoes, paddles and lifejackets to paddle on the pond at Langwood.  They cannot be hauled to other locations.
    • Trails - there are about 3-miles of wooded winding hiking trails.  Visitors are welcome to explore the beautiful woodland.
    • Wetland Interpretive Trail - the 45-acre Wetland Interpretive Trail area is adjacent to Langwood. The trail features 14 vibrant interpretive panels that help visitors learn about wetlands. This area is open to the general public. Groups using Langwood are welcome to also hike or fish the pond on this property.

    Check-In / Out Availability Check-in is after 03:00 PM and check-out is before 12:00 PM.

    Rental of Langwood Education Center comes with access to the 130-acres are including the lodge, A-frame dormitory, restrooms, seasonal shower facilities, and pond with canoes/paddles/lifejackets. The area also has 5 RV hook-ups that groups can utilize who are already renting Langwood.

    Fees

    Special Use Permit - $50

    RV Hookups (5 available) - $10/hookup/night - Please calculate the amount you need to pay based on the number of hookups needed and number of nights you will be staying. 

    Canoes (no charge, please indicate if your group would like to use them)

    All sales are final - refunds will NOT be given for cancellations. If a cancellation must be made, in case of severe weather, a "rain check" may be issued. The rain check must be used within 12-months of the issue date.

    Hours of Operation & Seasons

    Langwood Education Center is open by reservation only. 
    Check-in is at 3 pm. Check-out is at Noon. Groups interested in early check-in or late check-out should call the Conservation Office at 319-523-8381 to check availability. Early check-in or late check-out may be available for an additional $50. 

    Peak Season is April 15-October 15 - expect water to be on in the restrooms and Lodge.

    Winter Season is October 15-April 15. Water is turned off. During this time, groups must bring all their drinking and cooking water. Showers and restrooms will be locked, however a porta pot will be available for restroom use. 

    All sales are final, refunds will not be given for cancellations.  A rain check for up to one-year may be issued in the case of extreme inclement weather.
